Transforming Lives: Rural Disability Early Intervention & Rehabilitation Centres

Early detection and timely intervention can change the course of a child's life. With this vision, nine Rural Disability Early Intervention and Rehabilitation Centres have been established across the four taluks of Nelamangala, Doddaballapura, Devanahalli, and Hoskote—located in Dobbaspet, Nelamangala, Tubagere, Basahettahalli, Devanahalli, Vijapura, Hoskote, Vemgal, and DDRC (Doddaballapura).

These centres provide comprehensive rehabilitation for children facing developmental challenges, focusing on key areas such as speech and language therapy, psychology, occupational therapy, audiology, physiotherapy, prosthetics, orthotics, and modified footwear.

At the core of this initiative lies a groundbreaking Special Education Programme—one of its kind in India—where mothers are trained as therapists and educators. These empowered mothers not only support their own children but also uplift other families in similar situations. With dedicated mothers leading the centres, this program is redefining rehabilitation, creating a ripple effect of care, knowledge, and transformation in rural Karnataka.

These centres are run collaboratively between the Government of Karnataka, Baptist Hospital and Kurian Foundation and the person at the fulcrum is Mr Shiva of Baptist Hospital
